OUTREACH

In the Gonzales community, Church of the Messiah has the reputation of being an “outreach church”.  We have a salad supper and silent auction every year and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper, both serve as our main outreach fund raisers. Some of the outreach activities include ongoing support to the food pantry, assistance for children as identified by local school counselors, adoption of families for a year with special emphasis on Easter and Christmas gifts, addressing the medical needs of the poor, the Department of Human Service's food closet, Gonzales, Christian Women's Job Corps, the annual Relay for Life meal for cancer survivors and their families, sponsoring a Good Samaritan inner city child to Camp Capers, supporting the educational needs of Uganda orphans, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Blessing Cross Project, and others.

The Jim Price Cleanup Day usually takes place on the Saturday closest to April 22, Earth Day, and involves the entire Gonzales Community. Dr. Jim Price is a recently deceased member, who was a Gonzales physician for over 50 years, and was known to take long walks, picking up trash along his way. His passion for keeping the streets clean has inspired this community event that covers the entire city.

Much of our proceeds go to support GCAM (Gonzales Christian Assistance Ministry), across the street from the church.  Messiah owns the buildings and property out of which GCAM operates, as well as the Rectory home (where the priest typically lives), from which the Christian Women's Job Corps of Gonzales ministers.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in this ministry as it is central to our call as Christians to support those in need through our prayers and actions. Talk to Janna or  Kerry (see below) if you want more information.

Kerry is our dedicated Outreach Co-Chair, along with Janna Christian (shown here with her son, Carson).
